According to quite possibly my favorite Quora answer ever, Insanity is when somebody isn’t mentally fit, while Insanity Asylum is where said folks go for treatment.

(Hey, they’re not entirely wrong.)

No, but really, Shaun T did us no favors by naming every Insanity program something totally non-descript like “Insanity” or “Max 30” or “Asylum Vol. 1” or — how clever — “Asylum Vol. 2.”

Both Insanity and Asylum Vol. 1 are in dead heat as the #1 and #2 toughest programs on the Beachbody platform. But what’s the real difference between these hit Insanity programs?

Yes, Insanity Asylum is Hard (Complete Review)

Then again, we’ve yet to see a Shaun T program we’d call “easy.”

Insanity Asylum (Vol. 1) is almost 30 straight days of unrelenting training purgatory. (OK, that might sound a smidge dramatic, but many agree that Asylum gives Insanity a run for its money.)

This athletic-based program requires an insane amount of mental willpower, strength, and stamina. Shaun T even dubs these speed, agility, balance, and coordination-heavy workouts the “hardest” you’ll ever try … which is mildly terrifying considering he cooked up the OG Insanity.

Twenty-five minutes a day, five days per week, five weeks — just how hard can Focus T25’s Alpha phase really be? The answers online are a mixed bag.

Some say it’s surprisingly tougher than T25’s Beta phase and holds the most challenging workouts they’ve ever attempted. Others argue that the scaled-back Alpha phase falls miles short of Shaun T’s breakout hit, Insanity.

Insanity Max 30 Pulse Review: Is It a Good Workout?

“Bonus workouts” aren’t anything groundbreaking on the Beachbody On Demand platform. But we rarely see an optional workout that the hard-to-please Insanity crowd seems to love.

We’re talking — of course — about Insanity Max 30’s Saturday “Pulse.”

Shaun T dubs it a “recovery” session, which could be an hour-long sit-and-stretch workout for all we know (hint: it’s not!). But is it a good workout?
