How long does preworkout last in your system before it wears off?

Have you considered using a preworkout supplment to boost your workout energy?

Or… are you currently using preworkouts, but don’t know whether it’s actually helping you at the gym?

It can be difficult to guage whether a preworkout is doing it’s full job and that’s why it’s important to answer some common questions about them like…

How long does preworkout last?

Make sure you read this article to the very end because you’re going to learn what exactly a preworkout is, how long it lasts, how your tolerance affects the benefits and a lot more.

Pre-Workout supplements are designed to help you increase the intensity of your training. Over time, the extra effort and reps you’ll be getting in will begin to add up and you will progress faster than without them.

When combined with the right nutrition and exercise program a pre-workout can add that extra boost needed to get over a hump or a plateau.

How Long Does Preworkout Last in Your System?

How long is preworkout good for?

This is a difficult question to answer properly, as it depends on the supplements taken as well as the person taking them. If the consumer is sensitive to stimulants or other ingredients, then the feelings could last for six or more hours, while someone who has a high tolerance may only feel them for an hour or two.

That being said, most supplements last somewhere between 3 to 6 hours. That can also vary based on several other factors, including dehydration, malnutrition, over-eating, fatigue, and tolerance. If you’re under eating, dehydrated, and sleep deprived, then you will not be receiving all the benefits that a pre-workout would provide.

So, make sure when taking these supplements that you are eating, resting, and drinking properly.

Now that we know what a pre-workout is and how long they last, let’s look it over to see if it’s right for you.

Should I Take a Preworkout?

This all depends on your personal goals. You may think a pre-workout is only for the advanced lifter who lives in the gym and needs to use it, when, really, a beginner can use it as well and see great results. A pre-workout can help anyone, regardless of their fitness level, in achieving their goals.

Taking a pre-workout can help you with all of the following:

  • Gaining more focus at the gym
  • Breaking through a plateau
  • Losing weight
  • Gaining muscle
  • Improving athletic performance

How Long Does Pre Workout Take to Kick In?

Do you feel…

  • Alert?
  • Energized?
  • Focused?
  • Light Tingling Sensation?

If you are feeling any of these around 20-25 minutes after ingesting a pre-workout then that means the product is working correctly. If you are new to supplements and have never felt this tingling sensation before, just know that it is normal.

The reason this is happening is because the nerve endings under your skin are being overstimulated by Beta-Alanine which is an amino acid produced by your body that plays a role in muscle endurance during intense exercises.

When to Take Pre Workout

Since preworkout supplements kick in about 20-25 minutes after consuming, you want to make sure you take them when you’re just about to start your gym session.

Simply, think back in time in regards to how long it takes you to get ready for the gym including changing and drive time. Then include the 25 minutes for the supplement to activate as part of that time.

For example, if it takes you 15 minutes to get to the gym, ideally you’d want to take your preworkout about 10 minutes before you hop in the car.

Caffeine Sensitivity

Does having one cup of coffee cause you to be wired and jittery?

Well that means you’re probably hypersensitive to caffeine, and you should be careful when taking a pre-workout. Read the label carefully to see how much caffeine is in a serving and make sure your body can handle it without feeling too many adverse effects. Also, any other caffeine should be avoided during the day.

If you’re one of those people who can drink a pot of coffee and then go take a nap then that means you are hyposensitive to caffeine. Basically, your genetics are just not affected by caffeine and you may not receive all the benefits of a pre-workout. This does not mean to double the dose of your pre-workout.

Pre Workout Not Working Anymore

Was your pre workout previously doing its job, but it doesn’t seem to be providing any additional energy anymore. Then you should asking yourself a new question…

Can I build up a tolerance to pre workout?

To put it shortly, yes. Your body is mostly adjusting to the caffeine in the supplements, so It doesn’t matter if you are caffeine sensitive or hyposensitive.

Eventually your body will begin to adjust and when that happens you can either upgrade your pre-workout or just take a break from the stimulant supplements.

Which Pre Workout is Best?

Well, I don’t have the exact answer to which pre workout is the best since that’s pretty subjective, but I can give you 3 recommendations of some of the highest-rated supplements on the market.

Cellucor C4 Orignal Pre Workout Powder

Cellucor C4 pre workout is one of the highest rated supplements on the market.

This America’s number 1 selling pre-workout supplement and it’s for a good reason. Cellucor C4 is perfect for anyone that is just getting started or someone looking to bring their workouts to the next level. The supplement helps boost your energy, pumps, as well as muscular endurance for those long, tough sessions in the gym.

A scoop of this contains 150mg of caffeine. To put that into perspective an 8 oz cup of coffee contains around 100mg. Remember to take this into consideration before consuming.

Since this is recommended as a prefect intro to pre-workouts it is best to take small portions of this first and allow your body to get used to it. Too much when first starting could leave you feelling uncomfortable.

Vintage Blast Pre-workout

The two-stage system also helps prevent dependency on a supplement while also increasing your overall workload, pumps, and your mental focus. It can also reduce lactic acid build up and soreness.
